| In the beginning... Mary Jeanne looked out of the office window on 4th St. and said to Pam, "that empty building across the street would be a great place for a yarn store." Pam said, "Okay." Finger Lakes Fibers opened in July of 2006 with less than 1/4 of our present inventory, no knowledge about how to run a yarn store, but a ton of enthusiasm. Nancy, Sue, and Amy started to work for us then; and they've been here ever since - helping our customers envision their next project and learn how to make wonderful things by hand! Then- In 2007 Ann joined our staff. Kristie and Tanya followed and worked until their babies arrived. Shelby keeps coming back for the summers; this year she's off to college. One of our loyal customers, Pat, helps out to fill in the gaps. In December 2009, Pam said, "Let's move our office to the store so we can have more time with all that beautiful yarn and those fun customers." Mary Jeanne said, "Okay." Always wanting more, in October 2010, Pam and Mary Jeanne found their dream location around the corner from the old store on Franklin Street in Watkins Glen. Thanks to their new landlord’s thoughtful renovations, a perfect yarn store/office combo was created – the best of both worlds. And then in March 2011, we launched an on-line store so now knitters can shop anytime from anywhere. Today we have a customer database of over 2,500 knitters from down the street, down state, down south, and even "down under". We ship packages all over the world every day. What's next - We are planning another one of our ever-popular Finger Lakes Fiber Tours as well as a trip to the Southern Adirondack Fiber Festival for September 2012; and a Fiber Tour to Vermont (including the VT Sheep and Wool Festival) in October. And we’re talking about another trip to Ireland in 2012. Stay tuned for more!
